Principal Selection Process

Big Shoes to Fill!

While we are saddened to hear of Mrs. Clark’s departure, we are excited about the next step in Skinner’s journey toward selecting its next principal. Per the Office of Local School Council Relations (OLSCR) guidelines, we have formed a principal selection committee. The committee is responsible for running the principal selection process and making a recommendation to the LSC.  The LSC will then vote on extending a contract to the new principal. The LSC plans to announce the committee members during next week's LSC meeting.

When Mrs. Clark departs on October 29, an Administrator-in-Charge will assume the principal’s responsibilities. Stay tuned! We plan to communicate more to the community in upcoming LSC meetings.
School Improvement Committee Meeting Rescheduled

October's School Improvement Committee meeting is rescheduled to Tuesday, Oct 19 @ 4:00. Stay tuned for details.
Save The Date: School Picture Day

School Picture Day will be on Friday, December 3, 2021.
Get Excited for Cookie Dough!

Your student brought home a cookie dough fundraiser packet. If you didn’t get one, please ask the school office for an extra.

This is Skinner West PTO's biggest fundraiser of the year, because everybody loves cookies! Students have a sweet time selling cookies to their family, friends and neighbors, all for a good cause: supporting our school. Orders can be placed using the order form on the brochure or online by sharing your personal link (included on the information sheet in your packet) with friends and family. Cookie dough can be shipped directly to customers, or shipped to the school for students to pick up. Cookie dough will be delivered in approximately four weeks.

Cookie dough packets are due back October 20.

Check out the prizes for top sellers:

Walkathon Information

We need Walkathon Parent Volunteers! If you are interested please sign up here.

The Walkathon is coming up quickly! It will be held next Thursday, October 21st (rain date October 22nd). This is our largest fundraiser of the school year and our goal is to raise a minimum of $75,000!

Your child should have received information sent home this week. Due to Covid, we will be taking precautions to limit the number of students participating at one time and also eliminated the bounce house for this year.

Here are a few reminders for the day:

* Wear purple and gold
* Bring a pre-filled water bottle
* Helmets are required if your child will be riding a bike (minimum $100 donation)
* Hand in your Walkathon envelope to your teacher before the Walkathon
* If your classroom teacher is requesting volunteers, please obtain approval to be a Level 2 volunteer here.
* Donations also can be made online via Zelle or Paypal to friendsofskinnerwest2011@gmail.com

In case you missed it....
Covid Communications Protocol

Many parents have asked how communications are handled at the school and classroom level when a confirmed COVID case is reported. Here is some additional guidance on how the communications are handled. Please know that Skinner West must follow CPS guidelines for communicating COVID exposure. There are two types of communications you may receive:

1.A letter is sent via Mrs Clark from the Office of Student Health and Wellness to parents if your child has been directly exposed to a confirmed COVID case. This email is very detailed and provides specific quarantine instructions and directions for students to flip to remote instruction.

2.After the Office of Student Health and Wellness completes the contact tracing investigation of a confirmed COVID case, a general exposure letter is sent to the principal to send out to the school community.This general letter is titled "Community Letter' to inform everyone in the school community of a confirmed COVID case in the school. This community notification means your child has not been directly exposed to someone in the school that has tested positive for COVID. No action is needed and your child is expected to attend school as usual.

Community Letter

Friday, October 08, 2021

Dear SKINNER Community,

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is committed to keeping you informed of the most current developments regarding COVID-19. A person who was in our school building on October 4-5, 2021 tested positive for COVID-19. We are sending this notification for your awareness, and you do not need to take any further action at this time. If you have been identified as a close contact, you should have received a separate notification from the Office of Student Health and Wellness with additional information.

As a reminder, we can slow the spread of COVID-19 as a CPS school community by getting vaccinated, social distancing whenever possible, wearing masks in public, washing our hands thoroughly, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

For district updates and resources, visit www.cps.edu. If you need help locating medical care or have any CPS-specific questions, please reach out to the Healthy CPS Hotline at 773-553-KIDS (5437) which is staffed 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

I am here to support you as we move forward together as one healthy, supportive, and engaged school family.

Sincerely,
Principal Clark
